SSANYU LUKOMA

Ssanyu Lukoma is a dynamic storyteller, award-winning speaker, and activist using her voice to reshape education, media, and representation. At 13, she founded Brown Kids Read, a nonprofit that has since distributed over 12,000 diverse children’s books nationwide.

Now a junior honors Broadcast Journalism major at Howard University, Ssanyu is the President of the Howard University Speech and Debate Team and the HBCU National Champion in persuasive speaking. She also serves as Co-Director of Community Service for the Cathy Hughes School of Communications Council and is a proud Taco Bell Live Más Scholar.

A four-time published author, a section writer for The Hilltop, and the creator of a viral TikTok platform covering student news and equity issues, Ssanyu blends journalism, education, and storytelling to make truth and access go viral.

A TEDx speaker and nationally booked presenter, she’s taken the stage at Princeton, JPMorgan Chase, Flywire, and dozens of schools and conferences. Whether through a mic, a book, or a scroll, Ssanyu is on a mission to spark change, speak truth, and uplift the stories that deserve to be heard.
